St. Michael’s Episcopal Church provides equipment grant to ECHO

Fort Myers, Fla., November 25, 2009— St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel Island recently presented ECHO (Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization) with grant funding to purchase a Seed Cleaner for their Seed Bank.  This Seed Cleaner will help volunteers and staff with the cleaning and processing of the seeds to prepare them for shipping.  The cleaning machine is designed to more effectively separate unwanted particles from viable seed. Having high quality seed, means that farmers and development workers who receive the seed will see higher yields and more nutritious crops, enabling organizations to alleviate hunger and produce income in areas where agriculture is difficult.

Since 1989, the Episcopal Church Women and St. Michael’s have been supporting ECHO’s efforts to reduce hunger and improve the lives of the poor worldwide.

“We appreciate the partnership with the Episcopal Church and their local parishes, such as St. Michael’s on Sanibel.  They have truly made a difference in the effectiveness of ECHO through their thoughtful gifts”, remarks Mary Moore, Development Director at ECHO.
