Fort Myers heard about Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization because they are the closest branch to ECHO’s Global Farm. ECHO Finance Director, Tina Ugland, became acquainted with the staff at the branch and introduced them to ECHO’s mission or reducing hunger and improving the lives of the poor.
That’s when Wachovia decided they would do whatever they could to help. The most pressing need at ECHO was an indoor air conditioner unit for the "Bed and Breakfast" housing at ECHO, which hosts visitors and students who come to ECHO to become equipped with agricultural skills and resources to reduce hunger in the communities where they work.
Previously, the house had inadequate air conditioning through window units in various bedrooms and cooling the common areas was an ongoing challenge. The 12,000 BTU Ductless Air Conditioner that ECHO requested through a grant from Wachovia Bank will provide the central area of the interior family room with cool air during the many hot months in this SW Florida climate.
ECHO hosts visitors from all around the world at the campus located in North Fort Myers, Florida. They have various types of housing available, including dorm-style, individuals houses, and the Bed and Breakfast. Many times visitors are not used to our culture and customs, and are not quite comfortable operating what we might think is basic technology, such as a microwave or stove. These individuals are invited to stay at the "Bed and Breakfast" where they have a hostess to cook and provide guest services.
