Country Program Director

Job Description

Because our mission is global, urgent, and the need is enormous, this position requires the temperament and energy to work in a growing, dynamic environment.  

The Country Program Director position is key to the success of the overall ministry of Water Missions International.  This role will have a tremendous impact on the effectiveness and growth of WMI’s international programs.  Under the direction of the VP of International Programs, the Country Program Director is responsible for initiating and developing new country programs, or reorganizing existing country programs to be sustainable and effective.  The individual is responsible for evaluating in-country organizations and personnel with the goal of establishing partnerships and relationships that enable and promote WMI’s ministry, mission and statement of faith.  The ability to build efficient and dependable in-country infrastructure is the key purpose of this position. 

This position requires travel to remote locations in developing countries to build relationships, train/equip potential leaders, and lay the groundwork for on-going development projects within the country.  Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work in team environment to provide technical direction and assistance for in-country staff, volunteers and partner organizations
  • Effectively evaluate people and organizations for potential ministry partnerships 
  • Perform Project Management tasks including using scope of work, project budget, project schedule, and periodic project status reports
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and site assessments as well as train others in developing countries and disaster areas
  • Prepare written budget proposals, program proposals and cost estimates
  • Report country program performance against budget, goals and measures
  • Direct, monitor, and maintain regular communication with the start-up programs
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to WMI staff, Board of Directors, Partners, Volunteers, and donors as needed

Minimum education and work experience

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in management and leadership positions
  • Demonstrated experience in Christian ministry, evangelism and discipleship
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD/PowerCADD)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills 
  • Excellent analytical and supervisory skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent relationship and mentoring skills

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of and commitment to the mission to provide access to safe water and an opportunity to hear the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ to people in need throughout the world
  • A clear, God given calling to the Mission
  • Ability to mentor and disciple others in the Christian faith and ministry work
  • An understanding of and ability to work with Board Members, volunteers, and all levels of staff
  • Ability to command respect and confidence
  • Ability to lead team toward common goals, and overcome diverse obstacles
  • Ability to organize personal work load and maintain a well functioning office
  • Ability to work through complex issues and employ reasoning skills to solve problems
  • An intuitive sense of timing and appropriateness in relation to projects
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends when necessary
  • A self-starter who problem solves and follows through without prodding but knows when and how to ask for assistance and counsel
  • A level of impeccable integrity and stewardship that demonstrates to those who invest in WMI a sense of security and trust that their gifts are well used and invested
