Seed Bank Frequently Asked Questions

I want to purchase seeds for my home garden in the US. How do I order?
A portion of our seed listing is available through our domestic catalog. You can view this catalog from our bookstore website. Please visit www.echobooks.org and click on Seeds.

Where can I find larger quantities of the seeds you offer?
Many of the species we have in our listing come from research stations or international seed banks and are not available in large quantities. Some species we propagate on our research and demonstration farm in Florida. Others are purchased from local seed companies. We have compiled a limited Seed Source List that may help you find the bulk seed you are looking for.

What seeds are allowed into my country?
This varies from country to country, depending on a country's importation regulations. Contact your ministry of agriculture for a list of prohibited or restricted plant species. Sometimes seeds are allowed even when plant material is not. You may also contact the ECHO seed bank for assistance - we can usually help you find out.

How do I obtain a phytosanitary certificate?
We are able to obtain phytosanitary certificates for seeds being exported from ECHO's seed bank. This process takes at least two weeks, so please allow time for order processing as well as certification. Often it is necessary to obtain a seed import permit from the importing country before a phytosanitary certificate can be issued. If you think you require a phytosanitary certificate, please contact the seed bank directly and we will be happy to assist you. The cost to obtain a US phytosanitary certificate is $150.
