Throughout the day, we will offer various workshops taught by the ECHO staff on growing tropical fruit trees and edible plants that are adapted to one of Southwest Florida landscapes.

We will offer sale prices on several varieties of edible plants, including a wide selection of mangos and tropical bamboo. ECHO's Tropical Fruit Nursery is home to one of Southwest Florida's largest collection of tropical fruit trees and edible landscape plants.

This event is FREE to the public. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

WORKSHOP TOPICS:

ECHO FRUIT TREE COLLECTION Explore the exotic world of tropical fruit trees that perform well in the landscape. ECHO's nursery features the largest selection of tropical fruit trees available for purchase in Southwest Florida. This workshop will include a walking tour of ECHO's Fruit Tree arboreteum along with basic cultivation practices for the homeowner.

FRUIT TREE CARE: For those attempting to grow tropical fruit in their own back yards, this workshop offers some practical advise on caring for a variety of tropical fruits. This workshop will be led by Danny Blank, one of Florida's leading experts in the field.

Hurricane Proof Landscaping and Recovery: This workshop will cover the basics of landscaping for hurricane conditions. We will cover hurricane proof plants, preparing your landscape for the storm and how to best recover what has been damaged.

ECHO Landscaping: Owning a lush tropical landscape is easier than you might think. Master Gardener Betsy Burdette will lead a walking tour focused on creating a natural, eye appealing landscape that is easy to plant and maintain.

Introduction to Grafting: If you have ever wondered how to graft your own plants, this is an excellent place to begin. The grafting workshop will give an introduction and overview of how the average gardener can begin to graft his own fruit trees. Other techniques of plant propagation will also be covered in this mini workshop.

Bamboo in the Landscape: Learn about one of the newest trends in tropical landscapes. The world of bamboo is vast, however the beauty of these tropical giants is just being discovered. Explore the fastest growing, most versatile plant on the planet. Learn what varieties are suited for your landscape, how to care for and overcome the common fears associated with this extraordinary plant.

Take exit 143 (old 26) off I-75. Go 1 mile east on Bayshore Road (Rt. 78). Turn left on Durrance Road at the prominent ECHO sign.  Turn in at the second left to park for tours or the bookstore. For nursery parking take your third right.
